Christoph Spendel – Standards
It is a duty for every jazz pianist to know and perform jazz standards as it is an obligation for a classical musician to play Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. It is where it all begun and it is a learning procedure, that every jazz artist should go through when trying to find his own style. Christoph Spendel has always treated this treasure, called „The Great American Songbook“ with the biggest respect possible and considers those compositions between Broadway an Hollywood as the true american artform. Like any other imrovised music, those great songs sound always different in each concert, on each recording performed by millions of musicians. Christoph Spendel has found his own way to approach this artform in terms of melody, harmony and rhythm: „I started with and will never stop playing Jazz Stndards, since they are a permanent fountain of youth“.
